Also referred to as ‘keyhole’ surgery, laparoscopy is a common diagnostic surgery performed to treat any ailments in the pelvic region, including the Liver, Stomach, Intestines, Pancreas, Gall bladder, genitalia, and the female reproductive tract. It is the most popular minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for taking tissue samples and analyzing a condition accurately. Owing to its accuracy and minimal tissue damage approach, it is now widely used to diagnose infertility problems, especially in females.

How Does Laparoscopy Help In Female Infertility Treatment?

‘Pelvic factor Infertility’ is a common problem in most women who are unable to conceive. It indicates a problem in their reproductive tract, which include:

  • Uterine fibroids or polyps

  • Scar tissues from an infarction

  • Abnormally shaped  bi-cornuate uterus

  • ovarian cysts (PCOS)

  • Blocked fallopian tubes

  • Hydrosalpinx - an abnormal fluid collection in the fallopian tubes

  • Endometriosis - when the endometrium tissues lining the internal uterus grow outside the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and pelvic tissues.

Some of these issues cannot be diagnosed precisely with ultrasound or MRIs. Laparoscopy enables the accurate diagnosis of these issues and allows appropriate treatment during the same procedure. Our infertility specialist often suggests getting a Laparoscopy surgery in Thane at our IVF center to ensure quick diagnosis, treatment, and recovery from any pelvic factor infertility.

How Is Laparoscopy Performed For Treating Infertility Disorders?

The laparoscopy surgery procedure is mostly similar for all pelvic problems. Is it usually performed under general anesthesia to avoid any painful experience for the patient.

It is performed with a Laparoscope tool which is a thin, long tube-like cannula with a fiber-optic enabled camera and light at the top end. Due to its small diameter, it requires a small incision, no more than a centimeter wide, to be made over the target area.

The surgeon injects some gas through the same incision or a second to move the organ part to be treated away from its surrounding tissues. It also creates a clear view for the surgeon to analyze the target organ via video feed offered by the laparoscope on a large screen.

Since the laparoscope is a hollow tube, thin surgical tools can also be interested through it or separately from another tiny incision. The treatment can be executed then and there.

It is an out-patient procedure, meaning that you will be allowed to leave after a brief observation period.

How Does Laparoscopy Affect Your Chances Of Pregnancy?

Today, many female infertility issues mentioned above are typically treated with laparoscopy surgery in Thane, Dombivli, Kalyan, and other Mumbai regions. Unlike traditional laparotomy surgery, which involves a large open incision, this surgery offers faster recovery and much lesser risks. As for your pregnancy chances, it increases your chances of conceiving by rectifying the organ-related problems causing your infertility.

In many cases of severe infertility, a laparoscopy preceding the IVF process is considered the best treatment course to reduce the chances of failure.

Our infertility specialist Dr. Chinmay Pataki often consults patients who come looking for laparoscopy surgery in Thane, Dombivli, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai, etc., who are unaware of its full benefits. He often guides these patients through the need and advantage of opting for this procedure before initiating their ICSI or IUI treatments. Even you can consult Dr. Pataki to discuss your infertility problems and if Laparoscopy is the right solution for you.
