Our First Case Of Combined Male & Female Infertility Treatment That We Could Never Forget

"See the things that you want as already yours"

year of case : 2018Location of client: Airoli, Mumbai

Introduction

Mr. Salim is born and brought up in Mumbai, where he gained his B.E degree in IT. He and Ms. Naseem got married in 2014 and have been living a decent middle-class life. In the early days of their marriage, they realized something was unnatural, preventing them from becoming pregnant. Both Salim and Naseem were well educated and aware of the commonalities of infertility issues prevalent today.

They immediately started consulting different IVF specialists and underwent necessary female and male fertility tests in Kalyan.

The Diagnosis

An ultrasound test confirmed that Naseem had developed fundal intramural fibroids in her uterus. However, her AMH (anti-mullerian hormone) levels were positive, meaning she could produce healthy eggs. But to their dismay, Salim’s male fertility test confirmed he had Obstructive Azoospermia, a condition that causes lack or absence of sperms due to a blockage in the reproductive tract.
Multiple fertility experts suggested that opting for a sperm donor was their best option considering their contrasting disorders. But the couple yearned to have their child on their own and continued their search to find a desirable solution for the next four years.

Meeting Akruti IVF

Through their four long years of research, they found that the MESA (Microscopic Epididymal Sperm Extraction) treatment could potentially suit Salim’s diagnosis, while Naseem could easily opt for an ICSI treatment in Dombivli or Kalyan. Now, for male and female infertility treatment, Kalyan has many clinical options, but it was hard to find an infertility specialist who offered both these treatments under the same roof.
This was when they learned about Dr. Chinmay Pataki and Akruti IVF Centre. A certified surgeon for Microsurgery from the Cornell University, Dr. Pataki is one of the few, if not the only, infertility specialists who could perform MESA procedures with much expertise.
He was the first doctor who did not suggest a donor as the first solution. After a brief discussion of their family history and previous diagnostics, he performed a Y-chromosome deletion test and Karyotyping for learning the severity of Salim’s obstructive Azoospermia. Naseem was tested again with a Laparoscopic Myomectomy along with Hysteroscopy for Uterine fibroids.

The Treatment

During their first attempt, Dr. Pataki performed the MESA procedure and successfully collected sperm samples directly from the epididymis, which is a small tube-like passage for the sperms behind the testis. As for Naseem, she underwent the safest and the most successful ICSI treatment in Dombivli at one of our well-equipped branches. During the ICSI procedure, a total of 9 oocytes were retrieved from her, out of which two grade-A quality embryos were developed in our incubator.
Dr. Pataki carried out a comprehensive ERA (Endometrial Receptivity Assay) cycle to determine Naseem’s unique embryo transfer time. This helped him synchronize the transfer process with her individual implantation timeframe, and both the embryos were transferred during this exact period.

The Result

It was the first-ever ICSI treatment performed along with the MESA procedure in the history of Akruti IVF. And owing to Dr. Pataki’s vast experience and highly systematic approach, the embryo transfer was successful in the very first attempt!
Upon her very first UPT (urine pregnancy test), Naseem was tested with a Positive Beta hCG level of 1050, which meant she was close to six weeks pregnant. In the following months, the couple periodically visited our center for routine checkups, and Dr. Pataki helped them with essential tips to maintain good physical and psychological health.
Finally, their years of patience, diligence, and unwavering faith in our treatments had paid off. The couple was blessed with a healthy baby boy with no complications.

Afterword

2019, Airoli, Mumbai.

A year later, Dr. Pataki got a surprise visit for the couple and their boy Zishan. It was a special day as it was Zishan’s first birthday! And they wanted to celebrate it with none other than the doctors and staff who helped them have the joy of parenthood. They requested to gather all the staff for a while and had a small party to celebrate the birth of their child.
